FoFA awards multiple scholarships each year for 8th grade students to attend the National Flight Academy in Pensacola, FL. This is a "once in a lifetime" opportunity for students to not only immerse themselves in aviation-related activities, such as flight planning, flying a simulator, and experiencing life aboard an aircraft carrier, but also to learn team building and leadership skills. Scholarship winners will have an above average GPA, a recommendation from their science teacher, include a 250 word essay with their application, and be interviewed by a team of FoFA members. Application window is typically from February-March of the school year.
Joshua Barber was an exceptional Fernandina Beach High School student who loved many pursuits, but especially aviation. When he passed away in 2020 from a rare tissue disorder, his parents Mark & Josie Barber, along with FoFA, established this memorial scholarship. Each year, FoFA awards a $1000 scholarship to a deserving Fernandina Beach High School senior who is enrolled in the Aviation Technology program. Education pursuits can include a 2 or 4 year college/university, technical school, or trade school. Please note that further study in the aviation field is not a requirement. Applications for this memorial scholarship are typically due by mid April of the student's senior class year.
